Basketball: Central girl signs to play at Colorado

BOULDER, Colo. — Omaha Central senior Kailah Bailey is the second Metro Conference player to sign with the Colorado women's basketball program, joining Millard North center Melissa MacFarlane.

Buffs coach Kathy McConnell-Miller listed the 6-foot Bailey as a power forward. She was the ninth-best available unsigned player for 2009, according to the Collegiate Girls Basketball Report. The report also ranks Bailey as the 31st-best power forward in the nation.

She was selected as a Class A all-state honorable mention player in 2007, when she was a sophomore. Bailey was injured early in her junior season and did not play basketball as a senior.

A versatile athlete, Bailey also excelled in track and field. She was a state qualifier in the high jump, 200 meters and the 400-meter relay in 2007 and set the school record in the high jump at 5 feet, 3 inches.

"Kailah is the perfect fit for Colorado basketball," McConnell-Miller said Thursday, according to a statement. "She brings athleticism, finesse and a rebounding mentality that fills an immediate need for our program. Kailah is an outstanding student-athlete, and an even better young woman. Kailah's addition makes the 2009 recruiting class even better."
